Japanese E-Motion 2001
Japanese E-motion is a project that reflects upon the processes of human communication in the digital Era.
Using Japan as the epitome of a highly technologically developed society, I collected both appropriated and original images to create a series of videos and photographs, to question the paradoxically “rationalized” use of emotional expression in real life.
I filtered and distorted the images as an analogy of how their emotions are the result of a conflicted and multilayered process that rises from the bottom of their tradition and cultural background, ultimately dissipating as they fall victim to the global standardization of e-dentity.
The project intends to digest the manipulated narratives derived from our subconscious desires to participate in this process, with which the Japanese seem to be announcing a future where rationality prevails over emotions, to meditate on the intangible phenomenon of the actions that makes us feel part of reality in the virtual world.
